Why the name "Penny Lane" was attached to this oscillator puzzles me. I can't think of a better one, however.

There is a street in Liverpool by that name, named after a slave trader,it's claimed. I got the impression that it came from a time when the penny was the main currency and that if something was dearer, it was rare !
