Very early discovery in LIFE, even tho search programs had not been created yet, and even tho it seldom forms out of random rubbish. Somebody was fooling around -like I did for about 20 years- and stumbled on this.

It led to the P30 Glider Gun that proved a pattern can add counters to the field endlessly. Conway originally thought that Life's patterns remained finite, but,once the Glider Gun was found by Gosper, all sorts of guns, spaceships, puffers,breeders and even the terrific SPACE-FILLER showed up.
